Trail Head is a hiking food company that creates dehydrated meals tailored to the nutritional demands of hikers, backpackers, and bikepackers. They came to our agency looking to build a brand system that captured the essence of the outdoor community: grounded, resourceful, and connected, but with a playful edge. Rather than leaning into the stoic or rugged clichés often seen in outdoor branding, they wanted something with personality: bold, energetic, and a little offbeat. Their vision included a palette of strong, contrasting colors pulled from the natural world, like moss green paired with ember red or canyon tan, to reflect both their adventurous spirit and the vibrant landscapes their customers explore.
For Trail Head’s packaging design, our goal was to put the food front and center, giving campers and hikers an immediate, appetizing visual of the meal they can look forward to after a long day on the trail. We wanted the packaging to evoke that moment of reward and comfort in the outdoors, while staying true to the brand’s visual language. The bold, nature-inspired color palette and imagery established in the brand mark is carried through the packaging, creating a cohesive, eye-catching presence on the shelf and in the pack. It’s design with purpose: inviting, energizing, and rooted in the experience of outdoor adventure.
